At Nellie’s, we are eternally grateful for our community of supportive donors — especially during the holiday season. Non-profits like Nellie’s depend on end-of-year donations for critical support, and despite the extra difficulties caused by the Canada Post strike, our community truly blew us away with their monetary donations this year. Many donors who typically make their gifts via mail, pivoted to donating online or by phone — and many of them doubled their gift from last year. In these challenging times, we’re continually so thankful for your gifts of all sizes, because truly, every dollar counts. Your donations helped raise funds that will support our programs and services for months to come.
Although there are way too many to thank, here are just a few of the organizations who helped us make a difference over the holiday season:
This year, we were extremely appreciative of the new third-party events that raised funds on behalf of Nellie’s, including the Shine Fit community workout class, the Red Hot Sili Peppers’ comedy show, John Tard and Thrash Panda Productions’ punk show, and of course, the continued support of Miracle Toronto’s annual holiday pop-up bar. (Interested in running a fundraising event of your own? Check out our fundraising toolkit to get started!)
A special shout-out as well to Evolve ETFs, who in addition to making a corporate gift, provided matching funds for employee donations. We’re also very thankful to the many family foundations, both large and small, who helped support us this past year, including The Alva Foundation, who is a first-time donor to Nellie’s.
And, of course, we’d be remiss to not give thanks to the many in-kind donations we received that helped bring joy to families both in shelter and in our community over the holidays. From fun presents for kids to thoughtful gifts for the women, we’re so thankful for all of the organizations who helped play the role of Santa for us. Thank you to Diana Tobia of Tobia Homes Realty, Fidelity Investments, Realstar Management, JLL Canada, One Fire Movement, Kathy and Jim of Riverdale Wealth Management, and Axis Toronto.
