Staying safe
If you are living with abuse, there are ways you can make yourself safer:
- Keep a list of numbers for people who can help you—family, friends, shelters, helplines—and memorize them if you can
- Call the police if you are assaulted so your abuser can be charged
- Keep a record of all incidents somewhere safe, where your abuser won’t find it
- Keep spare house and car keys easily accessible
- Create an emergency escape plan
- Stay in regular contact with friends and family who can look out for you
