Empowerment leads to transformative Justice

Empowerment leads to transformative justice

As Nellie’s moves into the next 50 years, our focus is on more than being a crisis organization for women escaping violence, it’s also on breaking the cycle of violence through prevention and empowerment. This shift from reaction to proactive action is crucial in ending gender-based violence for good.

How does empowerment change lives?

How does empowerment change lives?

Through our empowerment programs we not only teach self-defense skills to protect our clients and our community against violence, but also how to tap into the power they already have within themselves.

We have seen how empowerment self-defense plays a significant role in helping women and children achieve transformative justice. Where traditional restorative justice practices aren’t possible or appropriate—for example, mediation between a client and the perpetrator of the violence against them—empowerment courses can provide a comparable sense of peace for the individual and enable them to move forward.

Empowerment training, alongside our advocacy and other support-based programming, enables women to tap into their inherent resilience and reclaim their strength, power, and autonomy. They are able to find a new path for their life, free from gender-based violence and full of optimism, hope, and opportunity. Learn more about our empowerment programs.
