On Thursday, October 23, join us for a 3km walk through the Beaches neighbourhood as part of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation’s Night Light Walk, with all proceeds going to Nellie’s and Red Door Family Shelter. Thanks to the team at Royal LePage Estate Realty, this is the second year of this special event in Toronto, and we’re honoured to once again be the recipients of this generous support.
Creating an event that engages their community was a priority for the agents at Royal LePage Estate Realty, explains Christina Marchant, sales representative and member of the Night Light Walk planning committee. “The idea with this event is that it’s not just our realtors contributing to the [Royal LePage Shelter] Foundation,” Christina says. “It’s about trying to bring the community together to raise awareness and support services for women and children who are experiencing domestic violence.”
And involve the community they did — last year, 300 participants joined the walk, raising over $56,000 total. This year, the team is aiming even higher, with a lofty fundraising goal of $75,000.
The event kicks off at Kew Gardens (2075 Queen St E) at 6:15pm, where participants will gather to hear from a few inspiring speakers before walking a 3km route to light the way for women and children experiencing intimate partner violence in our community. New this year, all participants will receive a Royal LePage Shelter Foundation Night Light Walk red toque with a built-in light, and an LED glow bracelet, to help them shine bright and show support every step of the way.
For Christina, being a part of this event is an important extension of the work she does every day in helping people find homes. “I know from first-hand experience as a realtor how hard it is to find housing in Toronto for the average individual, let alone somebody who may have come through a traumatic experience and have no financial independence,” Christina explains. “I think that everyone has the right to a safe home, but not all Canadians have access to it. I really believe in the work that Nellie’s and Red Door are doing, and I want to support them in helping families have a safe place to live.”
